Officiating is a job where you are expected to be perfect your first time out and get better every time after that.
The Southern Alberta Basketball Officials Association (S.A.B.O.A.) is a working partner under the direction of the Alberta Basketball Officials Association (A.B.O.A.) and the Canadian Association of Basketball Officials (C.A.B.O.)
All members of the S.A.B.O.A. are qualified, tested basketball officials. Although there are varying levels of experience, all members of the S.A.B.O.A. are required to write a rules exam each year they officiate. In order to maintain their status, the officials must achieve a designated mark on the rules exam. As well, members of the S.A.B.O.A. are provided with yearly clinics to go over points of emphasis and review tough rule scenarios. Many officials choose to better themselves by attending camps in other places both in Alberta and out of the province or country.
